CANCELLED
"Due to the current swiftly evolving state of the Coronavirus, the Green Taste of Ramadan is “CANCELLED,” and Purdue University's OMDA/our Co-Host has cancelled all sponsorship and events over 50 people as we are about 240. "However", a similar event will be rescheduled, in another capacity, of which we are hopeful in the future once congregational restrictions and safety measures, for 'all of us", is advised and re-established. We believe everything happens for a reason. In light of our Creator, there is benevolence in all calamities, trials & tribulations, and things, 'BUT' we must be vigilant, and take action to protect ourselves, others and loved ones - and withkindness preserve our societal bridges - during thispandemic. We hope you, your family and loved ones, and all of us shall, stay safe and healthy during this time always. May the Creator-God bless you all, and forgive us all for our shortcomings as Stewards. Ameen." -Pen and Inkpot Foundation Board.

"The Covenants of the Prophet: Stewardship Building Sustainable Environments"
The platform called, 'Green Taste and Reflection in Ramadan', will convene again this year with a special Exhibit: 'Covenants of the Prophet Manuscript Exhibit.' [Books by author - one of our main speakers - available at the event]. This Exhibit is a small glimpse of copies of the manuscripts currently on Exhibit at the International Islamic Museum of Muslim Culture in Jackson, Mississppi, which has travelled across the world and scheduled to travel to other Museums in America (TBA).
Purpose: This event is the "K" in the mission of the Foundation - S.E.A.K. where the Stewardship (S) of the Environment (E) is the core of the foundation's work. This event gives a glimpse of Ramadan by sharing an 'Iftar (fast breaking) evening with Muslims and non-Muslims and see the beauty and purpose of Ramadan (fasting month) while enjoying a wonderful multicultural dinner, and build bridges. An essential aspect of Ramadan is serving community by reflecting the importance of what is healthy, to be grateful and thankful, to the Creator of us, through seeking common ground in society, while still maintaining our unique flavour. It is food for the mind by our speakers; food for the palette by our multicultural dinner; and food for the spirit by the thought invoking Exhibit of the Arts of the word and letters.
Essentially, through the platform of Ramadan - a fast breaking (iftar) evening - we build bridges through the sustainable 'story' of our speaker's sharing their unique bridge building actions, while reflecting the stewardship of the Environment as the covenant with our Creator. The platform also exemplifies the beauty of Islam and of, 'what is Ramadan' or fasting which is common to all faiths, its bodily, reflective and spiritual purpose and potent value in society to be a catalyst for change. It reminds that the diversity of your food, comes the diversity of 'we' the people and the safeguarding of our environment and its people. We all are essentially the ‘Green Taste of Ramadan’ reflecting each of our unique tonal attributes. And… it is through the architecture and tastes of our foods from our environments we take a glimpse this evening into the diversity of ourselves and our individual faiths to see our similarities, not our differences.
There are a significant number of Muslim children in our school system and Muslim adults in our communities, universities and professions making bridge building and stories that share common ground an important platform; to then reflect on the spiritual concept of fasting common to all faiths. It is an overflowing gathering of about 250 people, with a delicious multicultural dinner, two vibrant and thought provoking speakers reflecting diversity, sustainability and humanity within community, and alongside an Exhibit or Art or letter or a silent auction (each year is unique) of the Word; and a letter or attendance by the Mayor, and a diverse multi-faithful gathering for civic engagement.
So, what is this Ramadan?
Well, Ramadan is a month of fasting for Muslims. There are basically five pillars in Islam: Shahhada (oneness of God), Salat (prayer), Zakat (charity), Saum (fasting) and Hajj (the pilgrimage). Today we are celebrating the fourth pillar, called Saum or fasting which is the present month of which we share a taste called Ramadan. And we will journey through a few perspectives, from sharing a view of fasting by various speakers, which is common to all faiths and philosophies. Essentially, Ramadan or the month of fasting is a spiritual and physically intense 30 days of gratefulness, Thankfulness, reflection, sharing, giving, supplication and self building.
So, join the movement and initiatives by many similar minds. Please be part of the voice in your community. So make your sacred spaces, more green or merciful to the Environment, and share in a common ground that unites us! Listen to stories that build bridges!
